Vision for central city living released

The public is being invited to have its say on the vision for central city living in Christchurch.

Today the Christchurch Central Development Unit (CCDU) released the Draft Residential Chapter of the Christchurch Central Recovery Plan – A Liveable City - which puts forward the vision and framework for residential development within the city’s four avenues, and initiatives to stimulate development.

“It was always clear to us that the recovery of the central city hinged on the return of residential as well as commercial development,” says CCDU director Warwick Isaacs.

“It’s crucial that we attract people to live in the central city to add vibrancy to what will be a modern, world-class environment, and the residential chapter is about providing a pathway to this. Over time we want to see more than 20,000 people living in our central city.”

A Liveable City features a revised planning framework for the central city Living Zones alongside initiatives to stimulate the development of housing.

The document can be viewed at www.ccdu.govt.nz/the-plan, or by visiting the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority offices at the HSBC Tower, 62 Worcester Boulevard, Christchurch or the city’s libraries and service centres.

Comment on the Draft Residential Chapter can be made via a survey at www.ccdu.govt.nz/the-plan, by emailing info@cera.govt.nz, or by post to A Liveable City, CERA, Private Bag 4999, Christchurch 8140.

Comment can be made up until August 13, 2014, and will be considered before the chapter is finalised.
