Twelve female students and three support people have been taken to Gisborne Hospital after a bus accident on State Highway 2 near Morere Springs, south of Gisborne. The students and support people, from Turakina Maori Girls College near Marton, are all in a comfortable condition. Most are suffering from cuts and bruises, some with suspected broken bones.

The students were on their way to Gisborne to compete in the National Secondary Schools Kapa Haka competition which starts today.

Members of the travelling party who were not injured are staying at Waikanae Motor Camp.
