Porirua Thanks Neighbours for Gigatown Support
Help
is coming from Wellington City to Levin to keep Porirua in
the top five of the Gigatown competition that will win us a
place in the finals.
“With just four weeks left in this first round of the competition we are very thankful to our neighbours’ for their support,” says Mayor Nick Leggett.
Wellington City and Levin are actively backing Porirua’s campaign with WCC staff doing the Gigatown quiz series and GigatownLevin redirecting their energies to Porirua now that Levin is no longer a contender for the finals.
“Having the region backing our campaign is really significant. If Porirua wins, we want to see many more Gigatowns with gigabit-speed connections right across the region. We can’t do it alone. I thank those who are helping and ask other workplaces and individuals in the region to join us by signing up as a Porirua supporter at www.gigatown.co.nz.”
Wellington Mayor Celia Wade-Brown encourages
Wellingtonians to support Porirua. “We all benefit from
better broadband so let’s take the opportunity to boost
Porirua’s efforts as our nearest neighbour,” she says.
The Chorus competition split Wellington City into three
separate areas of Rongotai, Wellington Central and
Ohariu.
Horowhenua District Council Mayor Brendan Duffy
says he is proud of GigatownLevin’s valiant efforts in the
competition.
“We may not have had the numbers to stay in the running, but we can certainly add our numbers to support Porirua and I encourage Horowhenua residents to do just that,” Mayor Duffy said.
Mayor Leggett says it’s very encouraging to know people are supporting Porirua as the only North Island town in the running toward the finals.
“Winning the Gigatown competition will transform our region’s economy and the lives of our families. The winning package includes $200,000 toward an incubator project for new start-up companies. This will attract high-tech companies offering more jobs and new careers to the region. If we work together on this, we can all win.”
The Gigatown quiz series is online and simply requires participants to have an email address. It does not require use of social media and is fun and informative too. You can take the quiz as many times as you like, until you get all questions right. The answers can be found in the link below each question, so you learn as you go.
