Albion Square’s progress showcased to public

Residents will have the chance to learn more about the work underway on Lyttelton’s Albion Square at this weekend’s open event.

The Christchurch City Council is opening the square to the public for three hours on Saturday 30 August, giving people the chance to chat with the project team and view the site progress.

Construction on the square is scheduled for completion in late October. The new square will feature a carved entrance way, stage and terraces, play areas, the Lyttelton War Memorial Cenotaph and the historic 160 year-old St Joseph’s Catholic Church bell.

Local materials have been used in the square’s construction including timber beams from the wharf, and paving designs based on a flounder weaving pattern reflecting Raupaki and Lyttelton Harbour.
