Waikato district focus on community wellbeing

Waikato district focus on community wellbeing and growth opportunities

In line with our goal to enable further economic development and employment opportunities in our district, this month we launched Open Waikato, our online prospectus. This is a fantastic resource for people who want to invest, live or visit the Waikato as it provides economic data, fact sheets on our towns and video case studies of businesses establishing themselves in the district.

When you get a chance, check out our website – www.openwaikato.co.nz

We’re also co-hosting a conference on 29 October with Waikato-Tainui to showcase our success, diversity and opportunities in the Waikato. Dame Jenny Shipley is the key note speaker at this business event which we expect will attract developers, investors and tourism operators.

Economic growth is gathering momentum, with the $200 million infant formula plant built by Yashili in Pokeno and the Van Den Brink poultry processing commencing earthworks at their Tuakau site. Further development is also happening at Northgate Business Park in Horotiu.

While economic development is a priority for us, we are also focussed on talking with our community about areas that provide for overall community wellbeing.

We’ll be talking with our Tamahere community later in October about their ideas for a proposed new sports park. It’s important to us that we involve local communities in the planning process for sport and recreation areas so we are able to develop spaces that are appropriate.

The community discussions we have undertaken earlier in the year regarding the upgrade of Ngaruawahia’s skatepark are a good example of this. We were able to talk with the community board, schools and residents to gather input to the project and it has been highly successful. This facility was upgraded to the requirements of the end-user which is what we do endeavour to achieve with all our facility developments.
