Penrose Substation - Power Outage
Penrose Substation - Power Outage Update
05 October 2014
At 2:10AM this morning a number of Transpower assets at
our Penrose substation were tripped as a result of damage to
some control cables due to a fire in a cable trench. This
has caused an outage for around 85,000 consumers in the
areas of Mt Wellington, Onehunga, Ellerslie, St Johns,
Remuera and St Heliers.
Transpower has control of the
site, we are working with Vector to progress restoration, in
a coordinated manner. However, some areas will be more
badly impacted by the fire and may take longer to restore,
and Transpower will actively assist Vector in repairing or
replacing any damaged parts of their network.

Outage Update

At 2:10AM this morning

a fire in a cable trench. This has caused an outage for
around 85,000 consumers in the areas of Mt Wellington,
Ellerslie and Penrose.
The cable trench fire is now out,
and the Fire Service has handed control of the site back to
Transpower. With full control of the site, we can now look
to finalise our assessment of affected equipment and
commence restoration to initial areas when safe to do so.
Some areas more badly affected through the fire may take
longer to restore.
Penrose Substation - Outage
Update
05 October 2014
From about 2:10 AM this
morning a number of Transpower’s assets at its Penrose
substation were electrically tripped, causing an outage to
consumers in and around Penrose, Mt Wellington and
Ellerslie.
A fire in a cable trench may be implicated in
the initial trippings in our network – and that fire has
recently been brought under control. With the fire under
control we will be able to assess damage to our equipment
and determine restoration times.

Transpower advises that there is currently
a power outage affecting the Penrose, Mt Wellington and
Ellerslie areas. We are presently investigating the incident
to determine what has happened, but at this stage understand
there may have been a fire on site at our Penrose
substation.
