Network summary for week ending 12 October 2014
Electricity
On Monday and into early Tuesday morning, Vector’s crews worked 24/7 to repair and reinstate the fire damaged cables at Transpower’s Penrose substation, thereby restoring power to the 20,000 customers affected.
The other 65,000 customers who had power cut because of the need to isolate power at the substation for safety reasons, gradually had their power restored throughout Sunday as equipment was checked for safety and reinstated.
Bad weather caused trees to come down on lines in Riverhead, Titirangi, Whangateau and Clevedon early in the week causing a total of 2500 customers to lose power. Crews and arborists worked hard in the windy conditions to restore power as quickly as possible.
Our control room received a request to isolate power to a house/building fire in Papakura during the week. As the address was not in Vector’s network, our control room passed this on to Counties Power Network.
A car vs. pole incident was reported in Silverdale during the week. Our crews worked closely with emergency services at the site, as the person involved had been injured.
Gas
Emergency services and a member of the public advised us of third party damage to a gas line in Papamoa during the week. No gas supply was affected.
Third party damage to a gas line occurred in Epsom during the week. Our crews worked quickly to restore gas supply.
