Local provider appointed for newest Early Childhood Centre
Local provider appointed for newest Early Childhood
Centre in Tamaki
Tāmaki Redevelopment Company (TRC) and the Ministry of Education (MoE) are pleased to announce the appointment of local education provider Totara Seed Trust, to run the learning programme at the new Early Childhood Education (ECE) Centre at Glenbrae School, Glen Innes.
“In the context of the regeneration
programme which TRC is delivering in Tamaki, it is important
that the welfare of children is at the forefront,” says
Debra Lawson, CEO for TRC. “So this is a great place to
start.”
The Totara Seed Trust has been established by
its parent entity Teuila Trust, which is already providing
early childhood education at the Tamaki Pacific Islanders
Presbyterian Church in Glen Innes. It will open the doors of
the newly built centre early next year.
“TRC is
pleased that the Totara Seed Trust will be offering their
programme to more young learners in the community,” says
Debra Lawson, CEO for TRC. “They are deeply connected to
the community and have a wealth of knowledge and experience
drawn from working in the Tamaki area over the past 25
years.”
The build of the new ECE facility is one of a
series of initiatives being undertaken to meet the needs of
the current and growing local community as part of the
Tamaki Regeneration Programme.
“The Early Childhood
Centre will serve a critical need and enhance the
opportunities to be lifelong learners for those who live in
the local neighbourhood,” says Lesley Elia. “It will
help all the generations of the whanau, from grandparents,
parents and children. The school is looking forward to
working closely with the new ECE.”
Better quality and
increased participation rates are two of the goals outlined
in the Tamaki Early Learning Strategy five-year plan adopted
by the TRC, the Ministry of Education (MOE), and grassroots
education partners working in the Tamaki area.
“Totara Seed Trust has a deep understanding about the
barriers to increasing participation amongst Maori and
Pasifika families and this will help to achieve the Tamaki
goal of 98% participation by 2016 set out in the Better
Public Services policy,” says Ms Lawson.
“We wish to
thank MoE for demonstrating their commitment to Tamaki,
providing the funding and delivery mechanisms necessary. The
residents of Tamaki are fortunate to have dedicated MoE
officials in their area and as a result, this great facility
and provision.”
