How would you like to have your say?
Palmerston North City Council is making it easy for residents to voice their thoughts, with a draft policy seeking to enable good conversations to produce good decisions.
The draft Policy on Significance and Engagement seeks to increase the opportunities to submit thoughts and opinions to Council, and to open more casual communication channels to ensure that the people of Palmerston North are heard.
“We’re proposing Council take a ‘horses for courses’ approach to consultations and submissions” says Andrew Boyle, head of community planning.
The purpose of the Policy is to encourage residents to have a say in Council’s decision making process, and to ensure that Council’s engagement is proportionate to the importance of the decision being made.
“Council has a wide range of channels available, and they’re flexible to suit each consultation. Channels such as Facebook, hui, public meetings, submissions, surveys, public workshops, PNCC website and fact sheets are all available for people to use to talk to Council,” Andrew said.
An open day to discuss the draft policy and these options is being held on Monday 3 November in the Oroua Room at the Central Library from 12:30 to 6:00pm.
Residents are encouraged to join the conversation, by
filling in a survey on the Council website (search
‘significance and engagement’), by coming along to the
open day, emailing thoughts to submission@pncc.govt.nz or by
commenting on the promoted Facebook post in your
newsfeed.
