GOOD NEWS

Kahu Road bridge, Riccarton, almost finished

Kahu Road has been closed at the bridge near Christchurch Boys High for several weeks while the bridge has been repaired from the underside. That work is coming to an end with crews working through Show Weekend. We are hopeful of reopening the road in the week of 17 November. Thanks to drivers for their patience around this Kilmarnock St and Clyde Road and to the businesses/ Bistro and markets at Riccarton House. (Note work on the bridge side wall, adjoining Deans Bush, not affecting traffic, is continuing.)

Linwood Ave eastbound at Eastgate, intersection flowing

The pipe and manhole work on Linwood Avenue, eastbound side, heading towards the Port Hills, is due to switch lanes today or Monday, 17 November. This is good news, as the left lane drop will not affect any of the lanes at the traffic lights. All four lanes will be open at the lights. This should ease traffic congestion on Linwood Ave.(Westbound work was completed in two days earlier this week).

AREAS WHICH MAY CAUSE DELAYS

Major changes, new eastern loop, Wainoni/ Avonside/ New Brighton

Pages Road will be one lane, towards New Brighton only, Breezes to Anzac Drive, from 17 Novemberuntil the end of the year. At the same time, to enable a southbound detour, Kerrs Road, will reverse its current direction and go southbound towards Woodham and Pages Road. (See map below and web story with work notice links - http://strongerchristchurch.govt.nz/article/new-eastern-loop-route-avonside-wainoni-new-brighton-from-17-november )

• The new vacuum wastewater pipe connecting the households in Aranui with the new vacuum pump station on Pages Road is being installed by SCIRT’s City Care team. The road will be north-east bound only, towards New Brighton and the Pages Road bridge. The city-bound detour will be Anzac Drive/ Bexley Road to Breezes Road/ Bridge St roundabout. This work will last at least until the end of this year.

• In order to create a southbound detour with Pages Road eastbound, Kerrs Road, the southern end of Wainoni Road, will go southbound from the Dunarnan St intersection to Woodham Road/ Pages Road at the same time. The detour onto Wainoni Road northbound will be via Rowcliffe Crescent and Dunarnan St. Kerrs Road is north-east bound only until 17 November, so residents are asked to check as they exit their driveways.

• SCIRT’s Fletcher team is also working on Woodham Road, outside the health centre, leading onto the Pages Road intersection for five weeks to Christmas. This area is one-way, eastbound only while Kerrs Road is one-way, southbound. Expect delays at this intersection and on Pages Road, which will have a lane reduction where it meets Woodham Road.

Wainoni Road bridge – closed 14 November to four wheels

Wainoni Road bridge will be closed to cars and trucks from Monday, 17 November, for five weeks for repairs. Pedestrians and cyclists will still be able to use the bridge.
