Pack the Bus Is a Go
Pack the Bus Is a Go
The Mission and event partners The Breeze are excited to announce that the annual ‘Pack the Bus’ Christmas toy and food collection starts today. Every day between approximately 10.00am and 3.00pm, until Friday 5 December, a Christmas-themed Go Wellington bus will be visiting schools and supermarkets throughout the Greater Wellington region, collecting goods for individuals and families who are most in need.
This year, a new Virtual Bus has been created. People can help to fill it by Texting “BUS” to 4847 to make a $3 donation - a total of $1,000 will fill each bus!
To see the running Virtual Bus total, visit The Mission’s special appeal website www.ChristmasStar.org.nz.
Pack the Bus is a key event in The Mission’s ‘Christmas Star Appeal’, which has been revamped and expanded this year, in order to help even more struggling Wellingtonians, and to raise awareness and much needed funds for The Mission’s vital social services. The food that is donated over the Christmas season helps to stock their Foodbank for the coming year as well - often lasting until winter, when The Mission runs its Brown Paper Bag Appeal.
The Christmas season is a time when community pride really shines through, in what can be a difficult and stressful time of year for many among us who are struggling. Please show your support for The Mission, by donating to Pack the Bus when it’s in your area.
A current Pack the Bus schedule with times and addresses can be found at wwww.ChristmasStar.org.nz/events.
Also, each morning The Breeze will be announcing where the bus will be heading that day, and posting updates and photos from the bus on their Facebook page www.facebook.com/TheBreezeWellington.
The Mission will also be regularly posting on Facebook www.facebook.com/thewellingtoncitymission.
Through The Mission’s Christmas Star Appeal events such as Pack the Bus, last year The Mission distributed around 1,200 Christmas food parcels and over 5,900 new toys and gifts to Mission individuals and families, as well as clients from 32 other social service agencies, and on Christmas Eve over 100 families were personally delivered their special ‘Christmas Day Hampers’, which include everything a family would need to have a special day.
