Call for contractor interest in Convention Centre

Call for contractor interest in Convention Centre

Another step has been taken towards the build of Christchurch’s new Convention Centre Precinct with an early call for interest from contractors.

With construction of the Precinct due to get underway next year, Expressions of Interest are now being sought for Early Contractor Involvement services for the Convention Centre component of the Precinct. The call is on behalf of the preferred development consortium, Plenary Conventions New Zealand.

“Once Expressions of Interest are gathered, there can then be a short-listing of suitable contractors before the choice of a suitable preferred contractor to work with Plenary Conventions NZ on the design and build of the Convention Centre,” says Christchurch Central Development Unit (CCDU) director Warwick Isaacs.

“The CCDU is currently working with Plenary Conventions NZ and the preferred Convention Centre operator, Accor, on the master planning and development of the Precinct. This will help provide a path ahead to the design and build of the Precinct.”

The Expressions of Interest document can be viewed at the Government Electronic Tenders Service website at www.gets.govt.nz. The opportunity to express interest closes on Friday, 12 December.

The Christchurch Convention Centre Precinct will feature a Convention Centre able to cater for up to 2000 people and multiple events at any one time. The wider Precinct will have space which can accommodate hotels, and retail, commercial and residential development.

More on the Convention Centre Precinct can be found at www.ccdu.govt.nz.
