Tickets selling fast to Phoenix games in Hutt City

HUTT CITY COUNCIL NEWS RELEASE

9 December, 2014

Tickets selling fast to Phoenix games in Hutt City

The Wellington Phoenix has pre-sold 5,000 tickets to its A-League matches in the Hutt in February and March.

4,000 tickets have been reserved for members with about half of these being allocated to date, with another 1,000 snapped up on the first day of public sales today. The temporary stands have a capacity of 8,500.

With a number of stadia in New Zealand including Westpac Stadium unavailable due to the Cricket World Cup, the Phoenix in conjunction with Hutt City Council, has taken the bold step of constructing a temporary stadium built around the iconic Hutt Recreation Ground.

Wellington Phoenix General Manager David Dome says the club is thrilled with the support that fans in general, and Hutt City public in particular, has shown.

"We had a pre-sale on Monday and then general public today and the interest has been really encouraging.

"There's no doubt that the Phoenix's terrific form at the moment, including Nathan Burns being the A-League top goal scorer and playing attractive football with five wins in nine games, all helps.

"But the public has responded strongly, which is really exciting.

"Hutt City Council and the Phoenix are aligned in that we want this to be a family-friendly, carnival-type event, which will attract a wide audience who are interested in a really fun day out, with an exciting and entertaining football match to finish it off!"

Hutt City Council's General Manager Community Services Matt Reid says the region's support of the event is really exciting and the Council is deeply committed to creating an event that will attract sports fans as well as those wanting to be part of this unique sporting occasion.

"Ninety per cent of the presales on the first day are from Hutt City residents, showing there is huge interest from the local community.

"Council is committed to working with the Phoenix to ensure these three events offer something special for the whole family," Matt says.

Tickets are available from TicketDirect and start at just $19 for an adult and $5 for a child. Passes for all three matches can also be bought from $53 for adults and $13 for children 16 and under. Ticketing fees apply.
