Te Atatu Interchange Upgrade Project - Introduction
This project is widening the five existing motorway on-ramps and exits at Te Atatu and widening the Northwestern motorway (SH16) between Te Atatu Road and Henderson Creek. It is also enhancing existing facilities for walkers and cyclists and widening and raising the Te Atatu Road over bridge – including building a new pedestrian bridge. Works are due to be completed by December 2016.
Raising the Bridge
The Te Atatu over bridge is made up of three separate structures and these are being raised independently.
The pedestrian bridge on the western side of the interchange was raised between Fri 7 Nov and Mon 10 Nov.
The northbound traffic bridge is being raised over the summer holiday period between 27 Dec and 5 Jan when traffic volumes are quieter.
All works will involve continuous day and night work and require lane reductions both on Te Atatu Rd and SH16.
• During the day SH 16 will be restricted to one lane open in each direction. At night it will be closed in both directions.
• Access to and from Te Atatu Peninsula will be restricted to one lane each way - but will remain open at all times.
The key points to note are;
• Major delays on the Northwestern motorway and Te Atatu Interchange from 4am Sat 27 Dec to 5pm Wed 31 Dec 2014 and from 4am Fri 2 Jan to 5am Mon 5 Jan 2015
• Te Atatu Rd will be reduced to a single lane in each direction over the bridge between Te Atatu South and Te Atatu Peninsula from 4am Sat 27 Dec to 5am Mon 5 Jan
• Each work day from 4am the Northwestern motorway will be reduced to a single lane each way under the bridge, then closed under the bridge from 10pm each night.
• The Te Atatu city bound loop onramp will be closed from Sat 27 Dec to Mon 5 Jan
• The Northwestern cycleway and footpaths will remain open throughout the works
