Tremaine Ave/Botanical Road roundabout improvements to start

Improvements to the roundabout at the intersection between Tremaine Ave, Botanical Road and Gillespies Line will start on Monday 5 January 2015.

Work will include removing the existing roundabout and plantings and constructing a new roundabout that better deflects traffic, slows speed and improves safety.

Erdinc Atalay, Palmerston North City Council’s senior civil engineer says completion date is set for 3 March however it is totally weather dependent.”

The new roundabout will also upgrade water and storm water infrastructure.

“We will be excavating part of the existing roadway to protect its long term structural integrity and will be replacing kerb and channelling, road markings and signage,” Erdinc said.

The work is to be carried out between 6.30am and 6.30pm Monday to Saturday and the road will remain open to traffic.

“If at all possible please avoid driving through this area during the day as there may be some delays,” Erdinc said. “We apologise for the inconvenience.”
