Silver
Scroll and Tui winner to headline Rivercity
Caboodle
Country Music star takes the
stage at Rivercity Caboodle
With the reputation of the Whanganui Vintage Weekend growing Mainstreet Wanganui is having no trouble attracting some of New Zealand’s best acts to perform at their annual street carnival The Rivercity Caboodle. This year’s Caboodle on Saturday 17 January will be the biggest yet with a show stopping line up of local and visiting acts. The head line act this year is Tami Neilson.
Tami has not only won New
Zealand music awards three times in the Country Album
category, in 2014 she took out New Zealand’s number one
song writing prize, the Apra Silver Scroll for a song she
co-wrote with her brother ‘Walk’.
With a soulful
voice straight from the golden age of country and rockabilly
music, Tami Neilson was described by National Radio’s Nick
Bollinger as "A red-hot honky-tonker, somewhere between
Patsy Cline and Wanda Jackson with perhaps just a little bit
of Peggy Lee sophistication.”
Her latest album ‘Dynamite’ was listed by the UK Herald as one of the best albums of 2014. “As soon as I heard ‘Walk’ I knew we had to have her play at the Caboodle,” says organiser and Mainstreet Marketing Manager Elise Goodge, “to get to see someone of Tami’s calibre perform on our streets at a free event will be magic!”
Mainstreet are also erecting the outdoor cinema again and this year the National Film Archive; Nga Taonga Sound and Vision, have curated a special selection of archive films from Whanganui’s past for the screening.
There will also be a display of Vintage cars on Victoria Avenue, organised in collaboration with the Wanganui Vintage Car Club, market stalls, rides, food and drink and roaming performers to entertain crowds of all ages.
