Submit your own liquor ban area
Palmerston North City Council is asking residents to define their idea of a liquor ban area on a City map.
The map is included in a survey launched today that seeks to find out if residents support the current liquor ban area.
The survey is available to complete online at

Policy analyst Peter Ridge says that the current ban covers all public places within the ring road as far north as Featherston Street, as far south as College Street, to Pascal/Cook Streets in the west, and Ward Street/Victoria Ave in the east.
“The ban applies 24 hours a day, seven days a week and in general, it works well,” Peter said. “It’s enforced by the Police and is supported by the Safe City Host Patrols on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.”
The aim of the survey is to find out whether people are happy with the current liquor ban area, or whether they would like to see it changed. This could include areas where the liquor ban applies, or what days and times it should operate.
Copies of the survey and map will also be available at the city and branch libraries, and at the Customer Service Centre.
The survey closes on 31 January 2015.
