Set for Summer Nights

Stratford’s great summer is set to continue with Summer Nights the movie and concert soon to happen.

“We are excited to announce this year’s Summer Nights movie will be The Muppets and this year’s band for the Summer Nights concert is Wellington band Shenanigans,” says Director Community Services Kate Whareaitu.

“After the cold yet successful outdoor movie ‘Grease’ last year we are excited to permanently add a movie to the Summer Nights series,” says Kate.

On Friday 30 January, the movie night will open with a market of local stall holders showcasing their products and local singing and guitar duo Micah and Maddy at 7.30pm. This will be followed by the movie starting at dusk. For those wanting to get into character there are spot prizes for the best dressed movie goers.

The Summer Nights concert, which is in its fifth year, welcomes back Irish Wellington party band Shenanigans on Friday 20 February. The concert will start at 6.30pm.

“Shenanigans were a crowd favourite so it’s great to have them back” says Kate.

Both Summer Nights events will be held at King Edward Park, corner of Fenton and Portia Streets next to the Scout Den. Food and drinks will be available.

Alcohol is allowed with a picnic however the liquor ban will be enforced from 9.00pm on both nights.

Rain or shine both events will go ahead and be held in the War Memorial Centre, Miranda Street, Stratford.
