ToaToa Forestry Accident
ToaToa Forestry Accident
The Tauranga based Trustpower TECT Rescue helicopter was dispatched to Toatoa, near opotiki at 12:40pm where a forestry worker slipped on a fallen tree whilst working and fell resulting in a serious lower leg injury. The Port of Tauranga winch was used to retrieve the 26 year old male as the area was steep and covered in fallen trees. A St John paramedic stabilised the patient at the scene before being flown to Tauranga hospital for further treatment. Due to the remote location and inaccessible terrain, the helicopter was tasked.
Not long after the helicopter was back in Tauranga, we were tasked to Paengaroa where a 45 year old male was refuelling a boat at a service station and the fuel ignited causing an explosion. The man received serious burns to legs , arms and abdomen and was treated at the scene before being flown to Waikato hospital for further treatment. The boat was towed from the forecourt to a safe area where it was totally destroyed by the fire. New Zealand Fire Service responded to control the fire and secure a landing area for the helicopter. The helicopter was called due to the nature of the injuries.
