Museum of Wellington City & Sea joins forces with Scopa and House of Dumplings for fundraising campaign

Wellington eateries Scopa Caffé Cucina and House of
Dumplings have teamed up with Museum of Wellington City &
Sea to produce limited edition menu items for the Museum’s
fundraising campaign.
Museum of Wellington City & Sea’s What Year Are You? campaign has been set up to raise money for the development of the Museum’s Attic space. Between now and the end of February, people can ‘buy’ one of the 150 years that Wellington has been capital city via a dedicated Trade Me presence.
Years cost $250 and the names of everyone who buys a year will be displayed in The Attic when it opens later this year. Buying a year isn’t the only way that Wellingtonians can contribute to the campaign however; with special menu items at both Scopa and House of Dumplings, people can eat some of Wellington’s most delicious food and fundraise for the Museum at the same time.
Scopa was started by Remiro
Bresolin and his sons Leonardo and Lorenzo in May 2006.
Remiro – who sadly passed away in 2007 – was the first
to introduce pizza to the people of Wellington and his
iconic Il Casino restaurant was a Wellington landmark.
It’s no surprise then that the Bresolin brothers have
gone back to their pizza roots to create the City & Sea
pizza. Topped with prawns, pork and fennel sausage, chilli,
char-grilled spring onions and fresh watercress, the City &
Sea pizza is available from their Cuba Street café until
the campaign ends on the 27th of February.
Speaking about
Scopa’s involvement in the campaign, Leonardo Bresolin
says: “Wellington is a still a young city but it goes
without saying that much has happened here during its time.
History is very important and not to be forgotten; we take
our hats off to those who are gathering, documenting and
displaying these moments in time of our home town. Scopa is
glad to be on board to help raise funds for the Museum of
Wellington City and Sea’s new and exciting
development.”
Meanwhile, on Taranaki Street, House of
Dumplings has created two very special dumplings; the
‘City’ is full of home grown veggies, kindly donated
from the people of Wellington, while the ‘Sea’ dumpling
is filled with Wairarapa Butterfish, fennel, bok choy and
capers. Proceeds from the special menu items will be donated
to the fundraising campaign.
Dumpling Queen Vicky Ha
has been serving Wellingtonians her delicious dumplings for
nearly four years. Originally sold from her portable bike
stall, Vicky’s House of Dumplings now has a permanent home
on Taranaki Street.
Speaking about her involvement in the campaign, Vicky Ha says “Museum of Wellington City & Sea is in some ways like our dumplings, we both value our heritage and respect our roots. We love Wellington for so many reasons, but mainly because of its people and its culture.”
