Enrol by Monday 23 February for Northland by-Election
Enrol by Monday 23 February to Make Voting Easy in the
Northland by-Election
Make voting in the Northland by-election on Saturday 28 March as easy as possible by enrolling by next Monday.
“You must enrol by Monday 23 February to ensure you get your EasyVote pack in the mail,” says Deborah Darton, Registrar of Electors, Northland Electorate. “It will give you all the information you need to vote in the by-election – candidates, voting places and the times they’re open, and of course your EasyVote card.”
Enrolling is quick and easy. Enrolment forms are available from the elections website www.elections.org.nz, by Freetexting your name and address to 3676, from any PostShop or by calling Freephone 0800 36 76 56. People can update their details by filling in a new enrolment form or going online to www.elections.org.nz.
“And if you’ve got friends or whānau who aren’t enrolled - now’s a great chance to remind them!”
Only those who are enrolled in the general electorate of Northland are entitled to vote in the by-election.
“If you are Māori, and enrolling for the first time, you can choose whether you go on the Māori roll or the General roll,” says Deborah Darton. “If you enrol now and choose the Māori roll, you will be in the Te Tai Tokerau electorate and won’t be able to vote in this by-election. If you enrol now and choose the General roll for the Northland electorate, you will be able to vote in this by-election. The roll you choose now will be the roll you are on for the next general election. Whichever roll you choose, you will be unable to change roll types until the next Māori Electoral Option which is scheduled for 2018.”
To be eligible to enrol in the Northland
electorate you must:
• Be 18 years of age or
over; and
• Be a New Zealand citizen or
permanent resident who has lived in New Zealand continuously
for 12 months at some time; and
• Have been
living in the Northland electorate for one month or
more.
