Christchurch delivers official New Zealand welcome to the Pakistan Cricket Team

Christchurch City Council, ICC Cricket World Cup representatives and Ngāi Tahu today officially welcomed the Pakistan Cricket Team to New Zealand for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015.
Following an official ceremonial welcome at the Christchurch City Council Civic Offices, the Pakistan team travelled to the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 Fanzone at Victoria Square, and met with cricket fans and the Christchurch Pakistani Community.
Mayor Lianne Dalziel says she was delighted to welcome the Pakistan Cricket Team to Christchurch and New Zealand, for what will be an exciting Cricket World Cup.
“We are honoured to welcome the Pakistan Cricket Team – who won the cricket world cup in 1992, the last time it was hosted by Australia and New Zealand.
“We have a vibrant Pakistani community in Christchurch and they are in particular delighted to see their cricketing heroes here in Christchurch for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 New Zealand,” says Mayor Dalziel.
Cricket fans meeting the Pakistan Cricket Team made the most of the opportunity by getting autographs, ‘selfies’ and listened to what the Pakistan Team Captain Misbah ul Haq had to say about their ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 experience so far.
Pakistan will play the West Indies on Saturday 21 February at Hagley Oval, in the second of their Pool B matches.
The ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 New Zealand and Australia takes place 14 February – 29 March 2015. For more information visit www.christchurch2015.co.nz
