River of Flowers – finalised locations
Community groups will be hosting fourteen sites along the Avon and Heathcote rivers, and at the estuary, as part of Sunday’s River of Flowers commemorations.
On the anniversary of the February 2011 earthquake Cantabrians will be invited to throw flowers into the water between 8am and 8pm. Sites will be hosted by community groups between 12.30-1.30pm, and two minutes silence will be held at 12:51pm.
Evan Smith from the Avon-Otakaro Network (AvON) says the River of Flowers is about acknowledging the huge impact the quakes have had on our communities.
“The earthquakes have changed Canterbury forever. The River of Flowers allows different communities, including those forced out of parts of our city because of red zoning, to come together, share stories, and celebrate our strength,” says Evan.
