Crowd gathers to Bike the Trail at weekend event
More
than 1200 people rode the Hutt River Trail yesterday as part
of the free, annual Bike the Trail event.
Most people started from Harcourt Park in Upper Hutt and rode the 25km to Hikoikoi Reserve in Petone. About 400 people took the shorter, 15km course starting from County Lane in Silverstream.
The event, which is organised by Hutt City Council, Upper Hutt City Council and Greater Wellington Regional Council, struck it lucky with spectacularly sunny weather.
Jaimee Lampard, Recreation Programmer at Hutt City Council said, “Bike the Trail was a high-energy fun event with a huge variety of people taking part from serious cyclists to parents out with their young children.
“It’s always a popular event and we aim to run it again in 2016.”
The Hutt River Trail is free and open year-round for people to ride. The organised event happens yearly and finishes with activities, food and spot prizes.
