Rock fall prevention work in Waioeka Gorge: expect delays

3 March 2015 | NZ Transport Agency - Waikato & Bay of Plenty

Rock fall prevention work continues in Waioeka Gorge

Motorists travelling between Opotiki and Gisborne on State Highway 2 (SH2) are advised to expect short delays this month as contractors carry out rock fall prevention work in the Waioeka Gorge.

The NZ Transport Agency says stop/go traffic management will be in place for short intervals from March 9 until early April at three sites in the gorge, to allow contractors to dislodge rocks from the cliff face above the road.

The work, which may involve some low level blasting, includes rock scaling, sweeping, and loading loose materials into trucks for removal.

The Transport Agency says queue lengths will be actively monitored and kept to a minimum during the works however motorists are advised to allow an extra 10 minutes for their journey during the works.
