Auckland’s Non Stop Summer Continues


Auckland’s Fan Trail will be in action again this weekend for the second ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 match at Eden Park.

Running from Queen Elizabeth Square, Britomart to Eden Park, the Fan Trail will be spearhead by colourful Bhangara dancers and a South African calypso band who will lead the 1pm parade along Great North Rd towards the stadium.

The Fan Trail is part of Auckland’s activation for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015, and like the Fanzone will be part of this weekends festivities.

The Fanzone, located in Takutai Square, opened on 14 February and will live screen 47 of the 49 tournament matches (the three Perth games will only be screened until the innings break).

Games scheduled for this weekend include South Africa vs Pakistan (2.00pm) and Zimbabwe vs Ireland (4.30pm) on 7 March and New Zealand vs Afghanistan (11.00am) and Australia vs Sri Lanka (4.30pm).

Fan Trail information:

• The Fan Trail runs from Queen Elizabeth Square, Britomart to Eden Park.

• In action on 28 February, 7 March & 14 March.

• For the Semi Final on 24 March , the Fan Trail will be a dressed route only, with activation taking place only around the Eden Park precinct.

• On Saturday, 7 March a “Postcard from Auckland” photobooth will be located in Queen Elizabeth Square from 12 noon to 4pm.

• Light tournament dressing from Queen Elizabeth Square up Karangahape Road.

• Bus stop dressing and tournament bunting begins from the Karangahape Road over bridge.

• The ‘parade of fans’ is where most walkers will congregate together as they make their way to Eden Park. On 7 March, the parade will start from the corner of Ponsonby and Great North Road at 1pm, travelling to the corner of Great North Road and Bond Street. Walkers are encouraged to join in and be a part of the parade.

• Entertainment will be strongest in the Eden Park precinct and include face painters, interactive photo booths, drummers, roller derby girls, and other activations.

Other ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 event activity on this weekend is a community net activation at the Papatoetoe Recreation Centre onSaturday, 7 March between 10.30am and 12.30pm, and at Woodall Reserve in Takapuna on Sunday, 8 March between 11.30am – 1.30pm.

• Volvo Sailing Have a Go programme gives people the opportunity to experience the thrills and spills of sailing in a safe and well managed environment.

• Free live music and entertainment.

• All fleet races will be screened on the main stage.

• '40 Years, 40 Faces' photographic exhibition.
