Inaugural Tamaki River Festival kicks-off this weekend

Inaugural Tamaki River Festival kicks-off this weekend

There will be no shortage of activities and entertainment on the water, in the water and by the water, this Sunday at the inaugural Tamaki River Festival. As well as enjoying the natural environment, food fundraisers, performances and educational displays, there will be activities for the whole family.

The festival is weather dependent but if all goes ahead, the advice is to definitely bring the family, togs, and towels to join in the fun.

The Howick Local Board is funding the new signature event on Bramley Drive Reserve which is focussed on improving water safety awareness. Local Board events spokesperson Adele White says it has the potential to become an annual calendar highlight for East Auckland suburbs.

“The few large-scale events currently held in the Howick Local Board area are run by the wider Auckland Council, ATEED or other private organisations,” says Ms White.

“This is a chance to build a unique event that’s led locally, bred locally and championed by local residents, community groups, and schools.

“We’ve had an amazing response so far where we now have a huge number of participants from local water sport clubs and cultural centres, to the local Magician and local Historian.

“We really want the Tamaki River Festival to be something our whole community can engage with, cultivate, and really look forward to each year.”

If unsure about weather conditions on the day, please phone 0800 301 0101 or visit the Howick Local Board Facebook page for updates.
