Auckland Open Streets Event 2015
Auckland Open Streets Event 2015 - Quay Street will be open for people
Aucklanders can re-claim the streets this Sunday 12 April to walk, cycle, play and socialise as part of the Auckland Open Streets event.
Quay Street from Princes Wharf to Tinley Street will be closed from 10am to 4pm and people can enjoy a car-free space with street entertainers, sport activities, street games, cycling safety workshops, BMX demonstrations, guided bike tours, a heritage trail and live music and dancing.
Open Streets (‘ciclovia’) is an international initiative to temporarily close the road to vehicle traffic and to claim the street for walking, cycling, playing and socialising.
Auckland Transport’s Walking and Cycling Manager Kathryn King says this is just one way of helping Auckland to become the world’s most liveable city. “Open Streets gives the streets back to the people and provides an excellent opportunity for Aucklanders to experience this beautiful waterfront location in a new way.”
Open Streets is a free community event with activities and attractions for kids, families and adults to enjoy. The first Ciclovia on Quay event, held in February last year, attracted around 20,000 people.

Open Streets is supported by Waitemata Local Board, Auckland Council and Waterfront Auckland.
