The Electoral Commission has released the official results for the 28 March Parliamentary by-election in the electorate of Northland.

In the 2015 Northland by-election there were:

• 45,955 people enrolled.

• A total of 30,047 votes cast.

• 13,869 advance votes.

• 1,579 special votes, including 65 overseas votes.

The winning candidate majority was 4,441 votes.

Voter turnout for the 2015 Northland by-election was 65.4% of the 45,955 people enrolled.

The Electoral Commission expects to return the writ showing the successful candidate on Tuesday 14 April 2015(assuming no recounts).

Background

The official results for the 2015 Northland by-election held on Saturday 28 March 2015 have been determined in accordance with the electoral legislation. The results are subject to any applications for judicial recounts.

The scrutiny of the rolls has been completed and the master roll for the Northland electorate has been prepared. All votes cast on election night have been recounted and balanced and special votes have been checked for eligibility before being counted. This has been done in the presence of a Justice of the Peace.
