Porirua Market Out for Tender

10 April 2015

Porirua Market Out for Tender

Porirua City Council is seeking tenders for a Saturday market, to be held in the Porirua city centre.

The Council offered the Lions Club of Titahi Bay an exclusive opportunity to submit a proposal for operating the market. A satisfactory proposal was not received by last Friday’s deadline.

The Council is now offering this opportunity to other parties.

General Manager Strategy and Planning, Wendy Walker, said the Council wanted to see the market thrive.

“The Council is looking for a revitalised market with fresh ideas to bring new stallholders and new customers to the market,” Ms Walker said.

“We are looking for a refreshed offering on Saturday mornings that will add to the overall city centre experience.”

The vibrancy of the market has declined over a number of years. In an attempt to give the market a boost in 2012, the Council extended the closing hours from 10am until 12 noon and, in 2013, it installed power and water in Cobham Court at a cost of $134,000.

“We’re keen to see tenders from all sorts of organisations and groups, and to hear their ideas on how they might provide a dynamic Saturday market in Cobham Court.

”We will work closely with the market operator to ensure the market goes from strength to strength.”

Prospective tenderers are invited to contact the Council’s Economic Development Manager Chris Lipscombe at clipscombe@pcc.govt.nz or 04 237 3564.

Requests for Proposal will be available in electronic and hard copy format on Friday 10 April from the Council Administration Building in Cobham Court and the Council’s website.
