Hulse Calls for Cross Party Accord on Housing

Affordable Auckland Mayoral candidate Stephen Berry says Penny Hulse’s call for a cross party housing accord should be ignored. “This call is simple grandstanding from another politician thinking about their own Mayoral candidacy. The current housing accord is a failure, having two political parties involved isn’t going to make a difference.”

“Hulse is attempting to absolve herself of responsibility for hyper-inflation in the Auckland housing market by calling for Wellington bipartisanship. It is clear the real reason young families are now locked into becoming Generation Rent because of the policies of Len Brown, Penny Hulse and the left-leaning councillors.

Stephen Berry says Ms. Hulse has had every opportunity to fix the housing crisis and doesn’t need the permission of central government politicians to do so. “The most effective thing Hulse could do about housing affordability is to propose the abolition of the Metropolitan Urban Limit. However she won’t because she is more interested in playing politics than finding solutions.”

Affordable Auckland’s policy is to make housing more affordable through minimising the distortionary influence of Council interference in the housing market. This includes a respect for private property rights, making the consents process faster and cheaper while abolishing the Metropolitan Urban Limit.
