Stratford’s Anzac Day Commemorations
Stratford is once again commemorating ANZAC Day with its dawn service, parade, civic service and wreath laying ceremony on April 25.
Council is again working in collaboration with the Stratford RSA and Salvation Army to work on Stratford’s commemorations which will see Justice Tim Brewer as a guest speaker at this year’s dawn service.
Mayor Neil Volzke says, “It is important we remember the sacrifice made by others, that has allowed our generation to enjoy the freedom and democracy that New Zealand offers.”
For those who wish to show their respect commemorations in Stratford include a dawn service, parade, Civic Service and wreath laying ceremony. Details on these are outlined below.
The Hall of Remembrance will be open on Anzac Day between 6.00am and 3.00pm.
DAWN SERVICE
The dawn service will be held at the ‘Cross of Sacrifice’ outside the War Memorial Centre, Miranda Street at 5.55am. Justice Tim Brewer is the guest speaker for the dawn service. Returned Servicemen and Women, service members and members of the public should assemble before hand and medals should be worn. Coffee and toast will be served in the RSA after the service.
PARADE
The parade commences at 10.30am. It will start from the RSA on Miranda Street marching to the southern roundabout. It will then proceed along Broadway to the northern roundabout then turn onto Regan Street and Miranda Street ending at the War Memorial Centre for the start of the civic service. All organisations, groups and public wishing to take part should assemble at the RSA, Fenton Street at 10.20am.
CIVIC SERVICE & WREATH LAYING
Following the parade a civic service will be held at the War Memorial Centre, Miranda Street at 11.00am. The wreath laying ceremony will be held at the Cross of Sacrifice following the civic service. A cup of tea will be provided following the wreath laying.
