Wairarapa – 21 and 22 April
Media are advised that the Local Government Commission will be holding public hearings in Wellington and Wairarapa on its draft proposal for reorganisation of councils in the Wellington region.
The hearings are for those people who requested to speak further to their submission on the draft proposal. Media and members of the public can attend as observers.
The hearings will be held before the three Commissioners: Basil Morrison (Chair), Anne Carter, and Janie Annear. The hearings are run along the lines of a Commission of Inquiry. Commissioners may question the submitters if they need elaboration on some points. However one submitter cannot cross-examine another submitter or the Commissioners. The Commissioners will not be available for media interviews at the hearings.
