Submissions sought to shape the Region

Submissions sought to shape the Region

Horizons Regional Council chairman Bruce Gordon is urging the public to have their say on the proposed 2015-2025 Long-term Plan before submissions close on Monday 4 May.

The proposed Plan sets out how Council intends to manage the Region’s land, air and water resources over the next 10 years.

“Now is a vital time for the community to get involved as we look to the next 10 years. Council has received 28 submissions since the Plan was released for public consultation. This is relatively low number and we’re hoping to see it grow,” Mr Gordon says.

“We welcome all submissions, big or small, as every piece of feedback we receive provides us with a greater understanding of our communities’ priorities. This will help us to better align those priorities with Horizons‘ work going forward. ”

Mr Gordon says rates and projects will vary from district to district, and he expects submissions to reflect that variation.

“As the Plan will affect each district differently, we’re keen to receive submissions from all corners of the Region.

The consultation document, which was distributed to letterboxes throughout the Region from 13 April, summaries key issues in the proposed Plan and how different parts of the region might be affected. More detail on each of these issues can be found within the supporting information at www.horizons.govt.nz.

On the back of the consultation document there is a submission form for people to complete and post back to Horizons free of charge. An electronic copy of the consultation document is also available on the Horizons’ website.
