Feedback sought on future options for Chamberlain Park
Albert-Eden Local Board will consult on four options for the future of Chamberlain Park.
The board carefully considered responses to earlier consultation on uses for the park and has now developed concept options for its master plan.
All of the options provide for golf to continue at the park, the opening of new walkways and the restoration of Meola Creek’s habitat. Some of the options also allow additional golfing facilities, as well as other recreational activities including playing fields and an aquatic centre.
“Our area has the lowest levels of open space in the Auckland region”, says board Chair Peter Haynes. “We’ve also got one of the biggest shortfalls in sports field capacity in the region.”
“The Mt Albert, Morningside and Pt Chevalier areas are earmarked for intensification. The projected population growth and a lack of suitable land for open space mean it’s imperative to make the best use of what is available. Given these impending changes, this is a once-in-a-30-year chance to plan for future growth,” says Dr Haynes.
“Our local sports clubs are continually telling us that the shortage of playing fields is dire, especially for junior players.”
“We’ve listened very carefully to what people told us in the first stage of feedback on the future uses of the park.”
“We’re pleased to be able to meet the diverse needs of our community in the options we’re presenting. We invite everyone to have their say.”
The board will hold an open day on Monday 18 May from 5-7pm at Western Springs Gardens Hall 2, 956 Great North Road, where people can view the concept options, discuss them with board members and planners, and give feedback.
The public can view the concept options and have their say by completing the online survey at shapeauckland.co.nz or in hardcopy at Pt Chevalier, Mt Albert or Epsom libraries, at Chamberlain Park golf course or at the Albert-Eden Local Board office from 11 May to 2 June 2015.
