Wellington Free Ambulance resourcing key locations
Wellington Free Ambulance resourcing key locations
As a result of today’s flooding, Wellington Free Ambulance has moved resources into key locations region wide to respond to 111.
“Road access can change in a heartbeat in weather like this, so we have four wheel drives ready and waiting in Wellington city, Porirua, Upper Hutt and Kapiti,” says head of operations Rob Ives.
This is in addition to regular ambulance resources.
“Otherwise, demands remain around normal and our ambulance service is well resourced to handle incoming work,” Mr Ives says.
Take care of yourself, your friends, and family
Wellington Free Ambulance medical director Dr Andy Swain says today is the day to keep dry, and stay warm if you can.
“When you get wet, you get cold. When you get cold, you can lose the ability to think straight and that can create a downward spiral,” Dr Swain says.
His advice to the people of Greater Wellington and Wairarapa is:
- Wear wet weather gear.
- If you get wet, dry off and warm up as soon as you can.
- Be prepared – extreme weather can affect normal services, so check that you have medications and the things you need to look after yourself and your family on hand.
- If you have to leave your home make sure that you take your medications with you.
- Follow the messages coming out from Wellington Regional Emergency Management Office – they have all the latest advice and information - www.getprepared.org.nz
