Mr: Auckland Ratepayers’ Alliance Reaches 5,000 Members
The Auckland Ratepayers’ Alliance has welcomed its 5,000th member to join the organisation since its launch last month. Spokesperson Jo Holmes says:
“Clearly Aucklanders are ready to stand up and fight back against a Council wasting their money. The growth, support, and positive feedback we have received has been beyond anything we had hoped.”
“Among the 5,000 members, more than one hundred people have expressed a desire to volunteer and keep the Council on its toes. Incredibly, that number is still less than the 130 spin doctors employed by Len Brown and his Council. We’ll continue our recruitment efforts until the Council realises that the money from ratepayers' wallets should be respected, not squandered.”
Key Facts:
Launched: 13 April 2015
Number of members: 5,000
The aims of the Auckland Ratepayers’ Alliance are to:
• reduce
wasteful Council spending;
•
• increase
transparency and accountability of those funded by
ratepayers;
•
• increase institutional checks on
the Council;
•
• enable Aucklanders to easily
scrutinise Council spending;
•
• lower the rates
burden; and
•
• promote evidence-based public
policy.
•
The Ratepayers’ Alliance is not
an election ticket nor is it aligned to any political party.
It was established by a group of Auckland members of the
New Zealand Taxpayers’ Union with the Union’s
financial
support.
