Contract for Wanaka Sports Facility Awarded

Contract for Wanaka Sports Facility Awarded

Work will start on the new Wanaka Sports Facility at Three Parks within weeks, with QLDC announcing today that it had awarded the contract to Cook Brothers Construction Ltd.

QLDC’s General Manager of Planning and Development, Marc Bretherton, said three companies submitted tenders for the $13.9 million project and the successful bid was within the Council’s budget.

Cook Brothers proposed to establish on site within the next week and the facility is due to be open by 1 June 2016. It will include a sports hall with two full size indoor courts; changing rooms, meeting and office space; multi-sport artificial turf; carparking and landscaping.

The design will allow for a swimming pool to be added as part of the complex in the future. The timing of that development is dependent on the outcome of submissions to the Council’s 10 Year Plan, which are currently under consideration.

“New sports facilities for Wanaka have been in the pipeline for several years” Mr Bretherton said. “We’re pleased to be moving into the construction phase now, and people will be able to see the new facility start to take shape over the next few months.”
