Key decisions from today’s Council meeting
Key decisions from today’s Council meeting
Christchurch City
Council met today and made the following key
decisions:
Funding to assist
homeless
The Council agreed to allocate up to
$130,000 from its Housing Fund towards reducing homelessness
in Christchurch. The Council will enter into arrangements
with a number of registered community housing providers and
the Ministry of Social Development to lease private rental
properties for vulnerable elderly and young people. Other
community and non-government organisations will work with
the housing providers to offer support services to
tenants.
Draft waste bylaws approved
for consultation
The Council gave its go-ahead
to consult on two draft waste bylaws from 11 June – the
draft Cleanfill and Waste Handling Operations Bylaw 2015 and
the Draft Trade Waste Bylaw 2015. A key change proposed
under the new Trade Waste Bylaw is a reduction in the
maximum level of animal and vegetable fats that can be
discharged into the public sewer system. The change could
mean that businesses need to clean out grease traps more
frequently or put in place better fat-collection facilities
to comply with the bylaw.
Grant for
Residential Advisory Service
The Council
unanimously agreed to grant $50,000 towards the cost of
operating the Residential Advisory Service for 2015/16. The
grant will be met from the Christchurch Mayoral Relief
Fund.
Alcohol policy a step
closer
The Council voted to publicly notify the
city's provisional Local Alcohol Policy. The provisional
Local Alcohol Policy will be publicly notified through
newspaper advertisements and on the Council's website.
People who have made submissions are able to appeal to the
national Alcohol Regulatory and Licensing Authority. Once
those appeals are resolved, the Council can adopt its local
alcohol policy.
