Plan ahead for FIFA U-20 World Cup 2015 opening matches
Christchurch City Council is encouraging fans to plan ahead when travelling to FIFA U-20 World Cup 2015 matches.
The first matches for Christchurch of the FIFA U-20 World Cup 2015 will take place on Monday 1 June at Christchurch Stadium, Addington, starting at 1pm with Germany taking on Fiji and Uzbekistan playing Honduras at 4pm. The games will generate higher traffic volumes on Central City roads, particularly around Addington, Riccarton and Lincoln roads.
Christchurch Transport Operations Centre (CTOC) Manager Ryan Cooney is encouraging fans attending the matches, and regular commuters, to plan their journey at www.tfc.govt.nz.
“We’re asking people to think about their travel on game days. If you work near the stadium and plan to go to the matches, consider walking or cycling to the event. Public transport is another option, while those wishing to drive should leave a little earlier than usual and plan their parking.
“We want to make sure everyone has plenty of time to get to where they’re going and we would encourage everyone to plan ahead, check their intended route and allow a bit of extra time,” Mr Cooney says.
Consider doing something different that day:
• Live or work near Christchurch Stadium? Walk or cycle to the event
• Leave a little earlier to avoid possible travel delays.
• Share a ride to the game
• Driving? Plan your parking ahead of time at www.tfc.govt.nz/parking
