King of the Hill a highpoint of the long weekend

Sunday’s second King of the Hill event saw more than 416 people walk or run to the top of the Wainuiomata Hill and back. That was an increase of about 100 people on the 2014 event.

James Richardson was the first home in 27 minutes 51 seconds. First female home was Julie Johnson in 34.31. Both runners picked up $400 cash for their quick work over the almost eight kilometre course.

Families and fun walkers joined the runners, many of them in fancy dress. The winners of major prizes were:
§ Best dressed king: James Fraser
§ Best dressed queen: Margaret Willard
§ Best dressed child - Jade Porter and Daniel Clayden
§ Best themed team - Wainuiomata Hockey Team

Many people also won spot prizes.

Thank you to sponsors The Hits and Way of Life Fitness Centre.

This is the second year that King of the Hill has been run. It’s a popular event that brings a mix of serious runners, casual walkers, fitness buffs and families to Wainuiomata. People travelled from around the Wellington region as well as from Palmerston North and Nelson just for the event.

The Council plans to run it again in 2016.
