Recovery Assistance Centre Opens Tomorrow
Dunedin (Monday, 8 June 2015) – South Dunedin residents and property owners affected by last week’s floods will continue to receive support when a Recovery Assistance Centre opens in the area tomorrow.
The Dunedin City Council is opening the centre in response to ongoing demand. The centre will be located at the Church of Christ Hall, 3 Prince Albert Road. It will be open from midday tomorrow, with usual opening hours being 10am to 4pm with a late night on Thursday.
Dunedin City Council Recovery Manager Ruth Stokes says, “We are committed to doing what we can to arrange assistance for those most affected by the floods.”
Representatives from the Dunedin City Council and social services agencies meet tomorrow morning to discuss what help can continue to be offered and by which organisation.
Mrs Stokes says there is a three phase recovery programme:
• Setting up the recovery centre
• Direct contact with residents and businesses
• Working with social services to co-ordinate advice and support.
Skips are now being removed from all flood affected areas. However, if you still have large amounts of flood damaged material to dispose of, contact your insurance company as the removal and disposal costs should be covered by your contents insurance. If you are uninsured please contact the DCC for advice.
For health reasons, flooded carpets and soft furnishings should be disposed of or be professionally cleaned and sterilised.
If you are unable to move heavy items, please ring 477 4000 and we will arrange someone to help.
Sandbags will be collected from kerbside in South Dunedin for the rest of this week. As sandbags are heavy, if you are unable to move these to the kerbside please contact the DCC to arrange collection from your property.
The collection of refuse and recycling is now being carried out as usual in all areas.
