Busy spots in the central city this month
Busy spots in the central city this
month
If you usually travel through the central city in the area between St Asaph Street and Moorhouse Ave, expect extra delays during June.
SCIRT teams are working extra hard in the area doing wastewater and storm water repairs. This is part of a push to finish SCIRT work in the central city.
Commuters should take an
alternative route, or build in extra time to avoid being
late. Here’s an overview of where the busy spots will be.
This week – starting tomorrow, Thursday 11 June
Durham Street – between St Asaph Street and Moorhouse Ave
• From tomorrow (Thursday), work will start on Durham Street near the Moorhouse Ave intersection for three days.
•
Durham Street will be reduced to two lanes before the
Moorhouse Ave intersection to:
- one left and a through
lane
- one right turn lane.
• Commuters
should expect delays, especially at peak periods, and should
consider using an alternative southbound route like
Barbadoes Street or Fitzgerald Ave.
Next week – starting 15 June
Madras Street/St Asaph Street intersection
• Work will start at the intersection of Madras Street and St Asaph Street on Monday 15 June, and is expected to take around a week.
• St Asaph Street at the Madras St Polytech corner will be down to one lane.
• Madras Street will also be reduced to one lane at this intersection.
• Commuters should consider using Fitzgerald and Moorhouse Aves instead, or use Moorhouse Ave or Brougham Street for east to west journeys.
The following week – starting 22 June
Barbadoes Street near the Moorhouse Ave intersection
• On Monday 22 June work will start on Barbadoes Street near the Moorhouse Ave intersection, and is expected to take around a week.
• Commuters should avoid Barbadoes Street if possible, or be ready for one lane when approaching the intersection with Moorhouse Ave.
• Consider using Fitzgerald Ave to travel south.
There are other SCIRT works happening in the streets between the St Asaph Street and Moorhouse Ave area. Please slow down around work sites and watch for pedestrians and cyclists.
Thanks
Thanks Christchurch for your ongoing patience and support while we complete this essential work in the central city.
