Survey reveals important data for Central Otago

Waitaki MP Jacqui Dean said the results of a new survey focusing on the needs of Central Otago’s horticulture and viticulture sectors was a major step forward in future-proofing these industries for the economic benefit of the region.
“There’s no disputing the significance of horticulture and viticulture to the Central Otago economy and understanding the future needs of these industries will be crucial to their on-going success.”
Mrs Dean said in recognition of the critical nature of this information gathering process she had already attended several of the governance group’s meetings.
“The issue being faced by the horticulture and viticulture sectors have many similarities to the workforce issues being faced in tourism.
“Therefore, in my role as parliament private sectary for tourism I intend to continue to promote these issues and have on-going dialogue with senior ministers to get some forward momentum for the region.
“The results of the Central Otago
labour market survey also vindicate what many in the sector
have been saying for some time in regard to worker
shortages.
“I commend the Central Otago Labour Market Governance Group for their work in this area and acknowledge that their findings, particularly around housing, will be hugely beneficial going forward.”
