Wet Weather Causes Slips and Flooding

Wet Weather Causes Slips and Flooding

Like much of the lower North Island overnight flooding has caused numerous slips and road closures across South Taranaki.

Significant surface flooding and slips have closed numerous roads in the District. Parts of State Highway 3 around Patea are open but down to single lane traffic.

South Taranaki District Council (STDC) Group Manager of environmental services, John McKenzie says Council roading contractors are out assessing damage and staff are closely monitoring the Waitotara River. However slip clearance work has been halted while heavy rain continues to fall.

Mr McKenzie asks residents to take special care on the roads and encourages people to stay at home where possible.

Residents in flood prone areas should call 111 if they are concerned about their personal safety. For other assistance call the Council on 0800 111 323.
