Trust calls for urgent
donations from the public for flood relief
A Trust organising flood disaster relief for the flood stricken Manawatū-Whanganui, and Rangitikei regions is calling for urgent donations from the public.
The Manawatū-Wanganui Regional Disaster Relief Fund was set up eleven years ago. It received $9 million in private and government donations after the devastating storm and floods in February 2004, which affected most of the Lower North Island.
The chairperson of Trust, Eric Linklater is hoping the public will be just as generous, following the weekend floods.
“The work of the Trust will be focussed on the well-being of families”, says Trustee Jill White.
She says previously, donations have been used to provide emergency town water and to assist small businesses to promote the fact they were back and open for business during the recovery phase.
The Trustees are made up of representatives from all local authorities in the region and they distribute donations to local authority and community trusts and organisations.
Donations can be made to the Manawatū-Wanganui Regional Disaster Relief Fund Westpac account, 03 07280411355-00.
