DCC Media release on launch of draft environment strategy
Dunedin (Monday, 13 July 2015) Te Ao Tūroa – The Natural World, a draft environment strategy for Dunedin, was launched at Otakou Marae today.
Councillor Jinty MacTavish says the strategy builds on the stewardship by many Dunedin people and organisations over many decades and will help guide efforts into the future.
“It is a milestone for Dunedin, this being the first ever Dunedin City Environment Strategy, and the first time the city has launched a Strategy on a marae in such close collaboration with manawhenua.
“It was wonderful to launch the strategy at Otakou Marae, recognising the role of tangata whenua as kaitiaki, and in the presence of a wide range of stakeholders, from private enterprise and government representatives, to community organisations.”
Otakou runanga kaumatua Edward Ellison says Kai Tahu were very pleased to host the launch of the DCC draft environmental strategy today at Otakou marae.
“The strategy brings our diverse and special environment into a focus that resonates with our values and aspirations for Te Ao Turoa.”
