Join Auckland City Mission’s
Auckland Marathon team and give families in desperate need a
running start
Auckland City Mission is seeking
motivated and passionate people to join its team for this
year’s Auckland Marathon, to help raise funds for
Aucklanders living in desperate need.
The Auckland Marathon takes place on Sunday, 1 November 2015 and the Mission has set a fundraising goal of $40,000, which will provide 635 emergency food parcels for families living in poverty.
“Each emergency food parcel contains items that enable families to make simple, nutritious meals for four days,” says Auckland City Missioner, Dame Diane Robertson.
“Last year, the Mission provided 11,349 emergency food parcels to people living in poverty within our own community.”
Lydia Wong, who ran the full marathon as part of last year’s event, says accomplishing her life-long goal of running a marathon was made that much easier knowing she was doing so for a cause “greater than herself”.
“I had seen the tangible difference that the Mission was making in the lives of people, particularly through my experience at the Detoxification Centre, firstly as a nursing student and later as a support worker. I therefore felt extremely honoured and inspired to be raising funds which would be invested into the lives of people to see them practically assisted and empowered. For me, there could not be a greater cause to run 42.195 km for.”
As well as making a difference to their community, Auckland City Mission marathon team members will have access to fundraising support and an on-the-day Mission cheer team.
While golden entry spaces are limited, runners also have the option of raising funds as a general entrant. If you are keen to be part of the team, visit the Auckland Marathon website and select the Auckland City Mission from the Auckland Marathon’s list of charity partners.
