Christchurch Personalities Launch Campaign Urging Public Feedback on Transition Plan

Two Christchurch media personalities have launched a campaign urging residents to “stand up and be counted” in response to the Government’s transition plan for the city.

Local broadcaster Chris Lynch and multi-media specialist and recovery commentator Deon Swiggs, Executive Director of Rebuild Christchurch, have launched the “Have Your Say” campaign.

The campaign is in response to the Government’s recent announcement about the CERA transition plan, with a proposal to set up a new entity ‘Regenerate Christchurch’, and warns residents they have less than a month “to let the government know that you want your voice to be heard” about the future of Christchurch.

The campaign includes a 3-minute video entitled “Do You Care About Christchurch? Christchurch Transition Plan” that after one day has had over 40,000 plays across all Rebuild Christchurch social media channels.

Lynch and Swiggs say that if the people of Christchurch want it to be a city they can be proud of, then it’s important to have a say.

“The transition recovery plan may look like it’s about legislation, government powers and what replaces CERA, but what it’s really about is whether we the people of Christchurch believe we should have a have a say about our city’s future,” says Deon Swiggs

“The people of Christchurch should be talking about who should lead the regeneration of our city, whether it solely focus on the CBD or do the communities that make up the city matter as well?”

Lynch says: “Essentially, we should all be engaged in defining our vision for the future of Christchurch and we must stand up and be counted as numbers matter.”
