Network summary for week ending 9 August 2015

Electricity

House and building fires are keeping our crews busy this winter, as they isolate power at the request of emergency services. Power was isolated to a garage fire in Te Atatu Peninsula during the week, isolating it from the house at the address, for reasons of safety. Power isolations were also carried out to fires in Blockhouse Bay, Sandringham, Panmure, Manurewa East, Manurewa Central, Favona and Auckland Central. Our crews advised that a power isolation was not necessary when they attended a fire in Otara during the week.

A Vector pole had to be replaced after a car accident in Tamaki during the week. Power lines were brought down by a car vs pole in Titirangi, and a Vector asset was referred to supervisors for urgent further work after a car vs pole incident in Kumeu.

There were also car v pole incidents in Browns Bay, Bucklands Beach, Onehunga, Massey West, Sunnyvale, Papatoetoe and Papakura.

Emergency services alerted us that a pole was down in Mangere East during the week. Our contractors attended, and were able to advise that it was a council asset that was affected. Our crews made the site safe, and referred it to supervisors.

Our assets escaped damage after a report of lines down in Ellerslie South, but our crews had to make repairs at a second report of lines down in Ellerslie South during the week.

Gas

Our service provider found no trace of gas after reports of a gas escape in Otara South during the week. Third party damage to our network occurred in Taupo, Mt Albert, Papakura and Fairview Heights.

Projects

Our crews have been onsite at the Balmoral zone substation to carry out a switchgear replacement project. The latest switchgear from Siemens is being installed, with thirteen items of switchgear being replaced.

Works commenced at the start of July, and the project is due for completion in November. These works will help reinforce supply to the Balmoral area.
